Avis Training Glossary
Below is a list of useful terms that you may come across while doing the Avis Training. Click on a term to see its definition.
- Additional driver
- The car is normally only insured for the person who makes the rental. Additional drivers can be added when the car is picked up. There may be a charge for each additional driver and they must present their driving licence (which has been held for one year).
- Additional equipment
- Child seats, roof or ski racks may be available at an extra cost, these items are requested at time of reservation. Once confirmed this is a guaranteed extra (availability will be confirmed within 72 hours).
- Additional Liability Insurance
- In case the driver damages someone or something else, this provides extra cover to the basic Public Liability Property Damage in the USA. Strongly recommended for any rental in the USA, where claims can be very high.
- Age limits
- Maximum and minimum drivers age limits may apply and vary by country and type of car rented. Please check at time of reservation as there may be extra charges which can be paid to allow younger drivers to rent.
- Airport/City surcharge
- When renting from an airport or city location, car rental companies will often charge an additional amount. This should be included in the British Airways Travel Shop Leisure rates in North America and Europe.
- Collision Damage Waiver
- If a rental car is damaged, this will reduce customer liability in the event of any damage to the car for the cost of any repairs. Liability is reduced from the full value of the car down to an insurance excess.
- Collision Damage Waiver - USA
- This covers the cost of replacing, fixing the rental car or parts of it if it is stolen or damaged. This is not available in the state of New York where an excess will have to be paid.
- Delivery and collection
- Whilst we have rental locations at all major airports and a wide choice of resorts your customer may prefer to have the car delivered to their accommodation. A charge may apply, please check at time of reservation.
- Extended protection
- In case the driver damages someone or something else, this provides extra cover to the basic Public Liability Property Damage in the USA. Strongly recommended for any rental in the USA, where claims can be very high.
- Fuel
- In most countries the car is supplied with a full tank of fuel when the car is picked up. By returning the car back to us with a full tank of fuel there is no additional charge (a refuelling charge will apply if the tank is not full on return). Some countries will offer a full tank pre purchase which saves having to fill the car up on return.
- Goods and service tax
- A Canadian tax which is included in your rate.
- Insurance excess
- The amount of liability the customer is responsible for in the event of damage or theft of the car.
- Liability Insurance
- This is a compulsory insurance in case the driver damages something or someone else. This should always be included in your rental price. In the USA the amount of cover is limited and varies by state (see Extended Protection).
- Local tax
- These vary by country/state.
- Loss Damage Waiver
- See Collision Damage Waiver - USA.
